Dawson and Austin lead PVHS boys basketball to a win over Woodland

At the Dragon Dome in Baileyville Tuesday, seniors Ryan Dawson and Noah Austin each had a double-double to lead the Penobscot Valley boys over Woodland 59-54.

PVHS jumped out to an early 10-7 lead after the first eight minutes, and held a 24-19 halftime advantage. Dawson paced the Howlers in the half with 11 points. Woodland outscored the Howlers in the third 22-20, led by nine points from Gavin Berry in the frame. Austin and Drouin Brochu each had six points in the quarter to help hold a slim three point lead. Despite seven points from Evan Monk in the fourth quarter, the PVHS defense was able to hold the Dragons to 13 team points to help secure the victory.

Dawson finished the game with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists, while Austin had a game-high 17 points and 10 boards. The Howlers got seven points from Max Hamel, six points each from Darius Miranda and Drouin Brochu, five from Aiden Champion, and three from Chase Osgood. PVHS improved to 3-3 on the season and will host Schenck on Friday. Despite being closely guarded all game, Monk finished with a team-high 16 points (four 3-pointers) for Woodland, while Berry added 13. The Dragons also received scoring contributions from Brayden Dana with nine points (three 3-pointers), Jace Rousell with eight, Logan DePriest with six, and Graison Williams with two. The team connected on nine 3-pointers. Woodland dropped to 3-3 and will travel to Shead on Saturday.
