BANGOR- Husson University exploded for 71 second half points on Friday evening, pulling away for a 107-63 North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball win over Thomas College at Newman Gymnasium.
The Eagles looked like they would run away with it in the first half bolting out to a lead of 30-11, but the Terriers would battle back with a run of 19-6 to cut the deficit to 36-30 at the break. It was all Husson coming out of the locker room. After scoring a total of 36 points in the opening 20 minutes, the hosts put up 37 in the first 6:15 to start the second half to win their fifth straight game in convincing fashion by outscoring Thomas 71-33 in the final 20 minutes of action.
TJ Blackmon led Thomas College in the loss with 12 points, while Brady Adams (Sanford) and Isaiah Corson (Ellsworth) would chip in nine points a piece. The Terriers fall to 5-11 and 4-5 in the North Atlantic Conference. Husson had five players score in double figures led by Eric Ahlers with 25 points (9-15 FG, 4-7 three-pointers) and nine rebounds. Connor Heald had 15 points, Gil Matondo put in 14, Dylan Burpee (Southern Aroostook) contributed 12, and Andre McCauley had 11 points. Pierce Walston (Orono) and Christian Smith both came off the bench to score seven points each. Walston also had seven assists in 11 minutes. The Eagles shot 63.4% overall from the field in the second half that included 9-16 from the three-point arc in improving to 10-5 and 9-1 in league play. Husson is scheduled to host Lesley University on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
