In Milo on Saturday, seniors Ryan Dawson and Darius Miranda both had double digit scoring to help propel Penobscot Valley to a 40-20 boys basketball win over Penquis Valley.

The first quarter was slow and deliberate by both teams as they settled into the game, finishing with a 7-6 Howlers edge. Penobscot Valley created some breathing room in the second, outscoring Penquis 13-5 and taking a 20-11 lead into the break. The PVHS defense shined again in the second half, holding the Patriots to just 9 points while connecting for 20.

Dawson finished with a game-high 14 points for Penobscot Valley, including two 3-pointers. He also hauled down five rebounds and dished out four assists. Miranda also hit two 3-pointers as part of his 10 points and tallied three assists. Noah Austin shook off early foul trouble to finish with six points and six boards. Other scoring for the Howlers came from Chase Osgood and Max Hamel (five rebounds) who had three points each, and Drouin Brochu and Aiden Champion who finished with two a piece. After a 3-5 start to the season, the Howlers have won five out of their last six and sit at 8-6 heading towards the last two weeks of the season. They are scheduled to travel to Calais Monday, with Tuesday being the backup date in case the anticipated storm affects those plans.

Penquis had three players shoulder the scoring load on the day. Mickey Hager and Brodie Lovejoy scored seven points each, while Jake Heffenraffer scored six. The Patriots dropped to 1-12 and will travel to Dexter on Tuesday.
