Maine softball picks up their first win of the season at the Heart of Georgia Classic

The Maine softball team was back at it on Saturday in the Heart of Georgia Classic in Macon, Georgia and would pick up their first win of the 2026 season while dropping game two on the day in extra innings.

Game 1: Maine 10, North Carolina A&T 2 (5 innings-mercy rule)- Alli Goetz had three hits and two RBI, Annika Shearer had two hits and two RBI, while Anna Carlson also had two hits and a run knocked in as the Black Bears rolled past the Aggies. Keira Inman added a solo homerun to back Alysen Reith (1-1) in the circle who gave up one unearned run on five hits, didn’t walk anyone, and struckout two.

Game 2- Mercer 8, Maine 7 (8 innings)- A heartbreaker for the Black Bears as they had taken a 7-5 lead in the top of the eighth, before the other Bears and host of the tournament from Mercer scored three to walk it off in the bottom half of the inning. Carlson, Morgan Pool, and Eviana Robles had two hits to each to power the Maine offense. Robles drove in two runs, while Inman hit her second solo homer of the day. Kyla Brogan suffered the pitching loss in relief of Hannah Hipwell.

Maine (1-3) will finish up play in the Heart of Georgia Classic against Evansville on Sunday, before traveling to Florida for the Hatter Classic next weekend for two games against North Dakota State and three against Stetson.
