Penobscot Valley outscored Bangor Christian 16-3 in the third quarter on Wednesday, and pulled a 52-37 Class D girls basketball semifinal upset at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
It was a balanced scoring effort as Lila Cummings led the Howlers with 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Brooklyn Raymond had 10 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Charlotte Brochu put in 10 points, Rylee Moulton had nine, and eighth grader McKenna Ireland chipped in with seven points. #4 seed PVHS (15-5), who lost all three games to Bangor Christian in the regular season, will take on Machias in the regional championship game on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Howlers won the state championship in Class C last season. Mary Allen would score 19 points, Rivers Bradford had seven, and Maris Kowalski contributed six points and eight rebounds for the top seeded Patriots who end their season with a record of 19-1.
