Mickey Fitzsimmons, Liam O’Connor, Kaiyden Carter, and Landon Barrett combined for 27 second half points on Saturday afternoon as Machias would top Madawaska 61-57 in the Class D North boys basketball regional championship game played at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
Fitzsimmons had a team-high 20 points to go along with five rebounds for the top seeded Bulldogs. O’Connor added 12 points and three assists, while Barrett contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds. Carter would finish with eight points. Machias (20-1) will now face Monmouth (16-5) in the Class D state championship game at the Augusta Civic Center next Saturday, 2/28 at 4:15 p.m. Quinn Pelletier led #2 seed Madawaska with a game-high 28 points (20 in the second half), five rebounds, and three assists. Isaac Beaulieu chipped in 11 points, as the Owls finished as the runner-up with a final record of 17-4.
