The Maine softball team shutout Stony Brook 2-0, and then scored four times in their last at bat in the top of the seventh inning in their second contest of the day to defeat host Norfolk State University 4-3 at the Battle of the Bay in Norfolk, Virginia. Eviana Robles (RBI double) and Keira Inman (RBI triple) plated the only runs needed for the Black Bears in the first game. Alysen Reith (2-3) pitched a complete game in the circle allowing just three hits while walking three and striking out eight. In the comeback victory over NSU in game two, Inman started the rally with a leadoff solo homerun in the seventh. Francesca Guerrera had a RBI single and Madison Hand had the game winning two run single. Ava Zettlemoyer (1-2) got the pitching win in relief giving up two runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Maine (3-9) will play St. Francis and Hampton University on Saturday afternoon, before playing Hampton again on Sunday to end their competition in the Battle of the Bay.
At Williard Stadium in High Point, North Carolina- The Maine baseball team scored seven times in the sixth inning and would then hold on for a 7-5 win over High Point University. Albert De La Rosa, Brody Rasmussen, Hunter St. Denis, and Shane Andrus each had two hits each. Rasmussen drove in two runs. Gianni Gambardella (1-1) picked up the win on the mound allowing three runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout in 5.1 innings. Sebastian Holt earned his first save of the season. The Black Bears (2-3) and Panthers play a doubleheader on Saturday, before wrapping up their four game series with a single game on Sunday afternoon.
