PVHS girls start fast and win Class D North regional championship

#4 Penobscot Valley built a 28-13 halftime lead on Saturday afternoon, and rolled to a 53-37 win over Machias in the Class D North girls basketball regional championship game played at the Cross Insurance Center. The Howlers, who won the state title in Class C last season, now win a regional in Class D.

Brooklynn Raymond led the Howlers with 19 points (four 3-pointers), five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Lila Cummings added 12 points and six rebounds. Rylee Moulton contributed nine points and nine assists, while McKenna Ireland chipped in eight points. PVHS (16-5) will take on South Champ Mt. Abram (18-3) in the state championship game at the Augusta Civic Center next Saturday, 2/28 at 2:35 p.m. Loretta Richardson had 17 points and four rebounds for Machias, while Aubrey Wood put in nine points. The #2 seeded Bulldogs finish as runner-up with a final record of 18-3.
