Ashley Shores and Maddie Provost both put on spectacular performances on Friday night in helping to lead Lawrence to a 65-53 win over top seeded Gardiner in the Class B girls basketball regional championship game at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
The Bulldogs led by as many as 12 in the first half and 36-30 at the break helped by 16 points each by Shores and Provost, and then extended that to 14 by using a 12-4 run to start the third quarter. The Tigers snarled back by ending the period on a spurt of 11-1 to cut it 49-45 heading into the final eight minutes. Lawrence was just too much however as they outscored Gardiner 16-8 in the fourth to secure the victory. Shores had 29 points, six rebounds, and five assists while Provost would end up with 27 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. The Bulldogs (16-5) will take on South Champion Oceanside (20-1) in the Class B girls state championship game in Bangor next Friday at 6 p.m. Alexa Quintana had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Molly Takatsu had 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists for the Gardiner Tigers who end their season as regional runner-up with a record of 19-2.
