The top seeds in the USCAA Division II National Women’s Basketball Tournament both advanced in the quarterfinals in Buffalo, NY on Wednesday, as #1 Central Maine Community College and #2 UMaine-Augusta head to semifinal matchups coming up on Friday afternoon.
The Moose beat two-time defending national champion Christendom College 62-49. Bella Petrocci had 16 points (three 3-pointers), while Yvonne Roberge and Annabelle Morris added 13 points a piece. Morris also grabbed 10 rebounds. This is the first time in school history that UMaine-Augusta has advanced further than the quarterfinal round. The #1 team in the country and in this tournament rolled along in their quarterfinal, as CMCC defeated Penn State Dubois 77-55. Ava Smith (13 points, eight rebounds), Hunter Hartsgrove (11), and Breanna Dwyer (10 points, five points) all scored in double figures as a total of 12 Mustangs got into the scorebook.
CMCC (27-1) will take on Penn State York (24-3) at 1 p.m. on Friday, followed by UMA (21-6) against Miami Hamilton (14-7) at 3:15. The winners meet for the national championship on Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
