The Maine Mariners extended their franchise best win streak to 10 games on Sunday afternoon, rallying to defeat the Adirondack Thunder in overtime 4-3 in a ECHL matchup played at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
Down 3-2 in the final minute of regulation, Maine pulled goaltender Brad Arvanitis for an extra attacker and tied the game on a tally from Sebastian Vidmar off a feed from Max Andreev with 43 seconds left. A tripping penalty against Adirondack gave the Mariners a power play in the extra session. At 4:36 of OT, Owen Gallatin scored from the right circle with that extra man opportunity to end it. The Mariners (31-15-5-2) are now tied for second place in the North Division with the Thunder, just five points back of the first place Wheeling Nailers. Maine and Adirondack square off again for the annual “school day” game at 10:30 a.m. in Portland on Tuesday.
