Big homer from Sandoval not enough as Red Sox fall for first time in 2017

April 7, 2017

The Boston Red Sox looked lifeless for the first seven innings at Detroit on Friday afternoon.

They rallied for five runs to take a 5-4 lead in the eighth inning capped by a Pablo Sandoval three run homer.

The excitement was short lived as Heath Hembree (0-1) and Joe Kelly gave up the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Tigers held on for a 6-5 win.

The Red Sox were playing without Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez (flu), as well as Xander Bogaerts (Bereavement).

Dustin Pedroia, Mitch Moreland, Chris Young, and Sandoval had two hits each for the Red Sox.  Steven Wright allowed four runs in 6.1 innings.
