Husson baseball swept at NEC Friday

The Husson Eagles baseball team got swept in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at the hands of New England College in a pair of games in Henniker, New Hampshire.

In game one, the Eagles only managed two hits and the home Pilgrims scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to cruise to a 5-0 win. Luis Atiles, Stanley Vargas and Conor Crouse all had RBI hits for NEC in the win.

Ben Walls (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season going six innings, allowing five runs, none earned, six hits, with one walk, and six strikeouts. Vincent Backert (3-1) also went the distance for NEC, allowing no runs, two hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts in seven innings.

 

In game two, NEC broke out the bats in the first inning jumping out to an 8-0 lead, which they later extended to 14-2 after four innings, holding on for a 17-10 win.

Tommy Burns (2-3) took the loss on the hill for Husson, not recording an out in the first, and was charged with five runs, all earned, four hits, and a walk.

Sam Huston had three hits and four RBI to lead the offense for the Eagles, while Connor Maguire, Ryan Rebar, Mike Wong, and Logan Rogerson all had an RBI each. Rogerson was 4-4, and scored three runs.

Atiles went 4-4 with seven RBI for the home Pilgrims, while scoring a pair of runs. Jameson Carey (2-3) earned the win on the mound going five innings, allowing five runs, three earned, seven hits, three walks, and five strikeouts.

Husson drops to 13-12 overall, 7-5 in the NAC. New England College goes to 12-12, 5-5. The two teams will play another doubleheader Saturday at 12 and 2:30 p.m.
