The Boston Bruins and general manager Don Sweeney announced Wednesday morning that the interim tag attached to Bruce Cassidy has been removed, and Cassidy has been named the 28th head coach all time for the B’s.
Cassidy previously coached the Providence Bruins from 2011-2016, and the Washington Capitals from 2002-2004.
Cassidy led the Bruins to an 18-8-1 record this season as interim coach after the firing of Claude Julien, and helped Boston make their first appearance in the Stanley Cup playoffs since the 2013-14 season. The Bruins were eliminated last Sunday by the Ottawa Senators in six games in the first round.
