The junior division of American Legion baseball will take center stage in the queen city starting Friday. The Northeast Regional will open play at 11 a.m. at Mansfield Stadium.
Thirsty Turf Irrigation (Cheverus) won the Maine state title last Sunday by defeating Hart Transportation (Hampden) at Colby College in Waterville. Skowhegan will serve as the host team for the eight team double elimination tournament.
Cheverus opens play on Friday in the first game at 11 a.m. when they face Massachusetts runner up Franklin Post #75. Post #16 (Skowhegan) plays in the 8 p.m. nightcap Friday against Rhode Island champ Auburn Post 20/Elmwood.
The tournament also consists of Massachusetts champion Hudson Post #100, the champion and runner up from Connecticut, and the New Hampshire champion to round out the field.
The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday.
The junior division of American Legion features players between the ages of 13-17.
