Foxcroft and Dexter renew rivalry on football field

September 7, 2017

Foxcroft Academy and Dexter high school are only 14 miles from each other. Despite that closeness in travel and the rivalry continuing in other sports, the two schools haven’t played on the football field since 2012.

That will change on Friday night when the Tigers travel to Oakes field for a clash with the Ponies. Foxcroft played in the Big Ten Conference the last four seasons. This year they are. back in the Little Ten Conference (LTC).

“It will be exciting having the opportunity to play each other once again.,” Foxcroft coach Danny White said. “We are excited to be back in the LTC and with the opportunity to play schools we had played for 50+ years leading up to the Fall of 2013,”

Dexter coach Andrew Shorey added, “Our players are very excited to be playing foxcroft. Many of them know each other and love to compete against one another.”

Foxcroft is coming off a 49-28 loss to Madison in week one. Madison scored on their first four possessions. Foxcroft played an even second half with the Bulldogs.

“Madison is a very good football team with a few extremely talented athletes. We hope that playing that type of speed early in season will help us as we move forward,” White said. “We played a 14-14 Second Half, so we want to build on that type of effort.”

Dexter battled their way to a win over Ellsworth in their season opener.

“We played a tough hard nose game. We had a slow start but played a lot better in the second half,”Shorey said. “We had a lot of younger kids step up, and that was very exciting to me.”

The game can be seen live as the BDN game of the week.
