Giannis Antetokounmpo ended with a double double and scored 16 of his game high 37 points in the fourth quarter Wednesday night, to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 108-100 win over the Boston Celtics at TD Garden in Celts home opener.
Down five at the half, Boston (0-2) outscored the Bucks by nine in the third to take a four point lead into the final quarter. But the Celtics couldn’t slow down Antetokounmpo and Milwaukee (1-0) outscored the hosts 32-20 in the last 12 minutes to open their season with a road win. Antetokounmpo also added 13 rebounds and three assists. Malcolm Brogdon added 19 points, and Michael Dellavedova and Khris Middleton had 15 points a piece.
The Celtics, still reeling after the loss of Gordon Hayward to a horrific ankle injury in the three point loss at Cleveland Tuesday night, were led again in scoring by Jaylen Brown. Brown had 18 points and five rebounds. Kyrie Irving had 17 points in his first home game in Boston. Three others also broke into double figures, including Terry Rozier off the bench (15), Al Horford (13), and Marcus Smart (12). The Celtics head back out on the road Friday to battle the 76ers at 7 p.m.
