Xander Bogaerts had three hits and four RBI, including a big third inning grandslam as the Boston Red Sox overcame an early 3-0 first inning deficit to pick up a 10-6 win over the Kansas City Royals Monday night at Fenway Park.
Mitch Moreland also had three hits and a pair of RBI, including his third homer of the season. Rafael Devers, Eduardo Nunez, and Andrew Benintendi each added RBI, while Hanley Ramirez and J.D. Martinez had a pair of hits each. The Red Sox also tied a MLB record with the Bogaerts grandslam. With their sixth slam, Boston tied the 1996 Montreal Expos as the only other team ever to hit that many before May 1st.
Boston is now 21-7, and sets the franchise record with 19 wins in the month of April.
Eduardo Rodriquez started the game on the mound, and allowed five runs, five hits, three walks, and six strikeouts in four innings. Hector Velazquez, Carson Smith, and Brian Johnson combined to only allow one run on four hits the rest of the way, with Velazquez (4-0) picking up the win with two scoreless innings.
Chris Sale will be on the mound for the Red Sox Tuesday night at 7:10 pm. for game two of the series.
