After their elimination game at the NCAA softball regionals was suspended Saturday night because of darkness, the Husson Eagles resumed play against Western New England Golden Bears Sunday morning at Williams College.
Prior to the suspension, Husson had rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth. The game would go four extra innings and WNE would come up victorious 6-5 in 11 innings, despite four RBI from Husson catcher Kylie Cunningham. The loss sends the Eagles home with a 21-15 record.
Aimee Kistner made it 2-0 in the first for WNE (25-17) with a two run single. Cunningham cut into the lead in the second with an RBI single. Mallory Donelan hit an RBI single in the fourth, and Carlie Moss made it 4-1 with an RBI double in the fifth. Cunningham made it 4-3 with a two run single in the in the bottom of the fifth, and then Olivia Smith hit an RBI single in the sixth for the Eagles to tie the game 4-4. Play was then suspended. On the restart, WNE got two runs in the top of the 11th when Jen Luba hit an RBI double, and Kistner hit an RBI groundout making it 6-4. Cunningham was at it again in the bottom half with an RBI double to left center making it 6-5, but Kylie Kennedy struck out to end it.
Olivia Smith started and only lasted 0.2 innings for Husson in the circle, allowing two runs on four hits. Jen Jones (16-9) took the loss going 10.1 innings, allowing three earned runs, 10 hits, two walks, with six strikeouts. Paige Uliase pitched the first five innings for Western New England, allowing three runs on eight hits. Kistner (11-6) picked up the win in relief going six innings, allowing only one earned run, five hits, two walks, with four strikeouts.
