After a three year hiatus from coaching, Ed Kohtala was named as the new head boys varsity basketball coach at Orono High School, the school announced Monday.
Kohtala last coached the Bangor boys basketball varsity team, with his last year in 2014-15 before resigning. Kohtala spent three seasons with the Rams compiling an overall record of 32-24. In that 2014-15 season, Bangor failed to make postseason play for first time since 1986.
Kohtala replaces Jason Coleman, who is now the director of basketball operations with the University of Maine mens basketball team. Kohtala also served as an assistant coach under Ted Woodward on the mens basketball team before his transition to Bangor High.
