Jessie Warren capped off an amazing individual NCAA College Softball World Series with three hits and two RBI, and Elizabeth Mason added a pair of hits and three RBI, to lead the #6 Florida State Seminoles to the schools first National Title with an 8-3 win over the #5 Washington Huskies Tuesday night at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
The title is also the first one ever won by a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference. FSU (58-12) needed to win four elimination games during the course of the tournament, but won the best of three championship series with two straight wins over the Huskies. With FSU up 5-3 in the fourth, the Seminoles got three runs to break it open on a two run homer from Mason, and a solo shot by Warren to make it 8-3.
Warren, who batted an amazing .520 in the tournament, was named the most outstanding player. Meaghan King got the win in the circle, allowing three runs (one earned), five hits, no walks, with four strikeouts.
Noelle Hee and Taryn Atlee each had an RBI for the Washington Huskies, who end up 52-10. Taran Alvelo allowed six earned runs over 3.1 innings in the circle and took the loss.
