Sale pitches Sox to a sweep in Baltimore

JD Martinez hit his 22nd home run and Chris Sale pitched six strong innings for his sixth win, to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 5-1 win and a three game series sweep over the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Wednesday afternoon.

Mookie Betts hit a solo homer, his 18th of the year, to start the scoring in the top of the third. Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, and Eduardo Nunez added run scoring hits as Boston improved to 47-22. Martinez added a solo shot in the seventh. Andrew Benintendi, Nunez, and Brock Holt all had two hits each.

Sale (6-4), allowed just one earned run, two hits, with four walks, and nine strikeouts in the 6.0 inning effort. Brandon Workman and Justin Haley worked the final three innings, allowing no runs and two hits.

Boston starts a four game series at Seattle Thursday night at 10:10. David Price will be opposed by Felix Hernandez in the opener.
