PORTLAND, Me- Mike Shawaryn allowed just two runs and three hits over seven innings, and the Portland Sea Dogs pounded out 13 hits en route to an 8-2 Double A Eastern League baseball win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NY Mets) at Hadlock Field before 6,095 fans.

Danny Mars and Luke Tendler each had two hits a piece, and Tendler, Josh Ockimey, and Jeremy Rivera had a pair of runs driven in each to help last place Portland (30-49) to the win. Tendler hit his eight homer of the year, a two run shot deep into the right field pavilion in the second inning to give the Sea Dogs an early 3-0 lead. The Rumble Ponies cut it to 3-2 in the fourth, before the hosts got two in bottom half of the inning, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh to pull away and break a three game losing streak.

The excitement at the ballpark seem to center around Rumble Ponies outfielder/DH Tim Tebow. The former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback at Florida/NFL quarterback was 1 for 3 on the night and is hitting .257 this season. Kevin Taylor and Joey Terdoslavich had the runs driven for 38-41 Binghamton.

Shawaryn improved to 4-6, walking three and striking out two. Matthew Gorst pitched the final two innings for the Sea Dogs, allowing no runs, no hits, walking one, and striking out two. Game three of a five game series between the two teams will be played Sunday at 1 pm.

Over at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, the Maine Mammoths got six touchdown passes from quarterback Jonathan Bane to help upset the Carolina Cobras 55-29 in a National Arena League matchup.

Carolina (7-4) who was tied for first place in league standings coming into the night, were shocked early in this one as Maine jumped to a 17-0 first quarter lead. Bane threw four TD passes in first half alone, and the Cobras turned the ball over four times on the night compared to none for the Mammoths.

Devin Wilson caught three touchdowns, while Edgar Poe caught two to lead the receiving core. Desmond Maxwell also had a pair of rushing scores for the 3-8 Mammoths. Cobras quarterback Charles McCullum had a pair of touchdown passes, and ran for two more, but also had the two costly interceptions. Tyron Laughinghouse caught the two scores for the visitors.

Maine has a week off before returning to action on Saturday, July 14th at home against the Columbus Lions.
