July 29, 2018

Nathan Eovaldi made his presence known to Red Sox nation on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park. In his Red Sox debut, Eovaldi pitched seven shutout innings in a 3-0 win over the Twins.

Eovaldi (4-4) allowed four hits and struck out five. He didn’t issue a walk and only needed only 82 pitches (63 strikes). Eovaldi will get his first taste of the Sox/Yankees rivalry from the Red Sox side when he starts against the Yankees on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park. Eovaldi pitched for the Yankees in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He went 14-3 in 27 starts in 2015.

The highlight of the game defensively came when Jackie Bradley made a diving catch banging into the wall in the third inning.

JD Martinez had all three RBI in the game. He had two hits, including a double. Blake Swihart, Andrew Benintendi, and Eduardo Nunez each had two hits. Swihart and Benintendi each smacked a double.

Matt Barnes and Craig Kimbrel each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Kimbrel recorded his 33rd save, Barnes notched his 22nd hold. The Red Sox will open a brief two game series with the NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night with a David Price/Aaron Nola pitching matchup scheduled.
