Bogaerts Leads Comeback as Sox rout Indians

August 22, 2018

The last few nights for the Red Sox offense have been rough, only putting up seven runs in the last two nights. The lethal lineup looked to turn things around on Wednesday night, and boy did they, thanks to a big game by Xander Bogaerts who would help lead the Red Sox to a 10-4 comeback win against the Cleveland Indians.

The game started out a little rough. Brian Johnson would give up a two-run home run to Edwin Encarnacion giving the Indians an early 2-0 lead in the 1st.

The Sox would cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the 1st when JD Martinez would score Andrew Benintendi on a single to right field making the game 2-1.

Brian Johnson would calm things down as he cruised through the next three innings without giving up a run, setting things up for a big bottom of the 4th.

Bogaerts would spark a five-run bottom of the 4th by launching a no-doubt solo shot onto Lansdowne Street to tie the game at 2-2… Blake Swihart would later single, scoring Ian Kinsler to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead, one they would keep as Benintendi cleared the bases on a double, padding the lead at 6-2.

Johnsons night would end in 5th as he would give up two more runs on yet another home run by the slugger Encarnacion making the game 6-4… That would pave the way to the bullpen, a bullpen who has struggled as of late. They would come up big tonight though going 4 plus innings and giving up no runs.

The late innings would be about insurance for the offense. Mitch Moreland would hit a two-run shot in the 6th inning, followed by another solo shot by Bogaerts in the 7th inning. Capping the night off, JD Martinez would get his 108th RBI on a single to left field giving the Sox a 10-4 lead. Which would end up being the final score.

Matt Barnes (5-3) gets the win out of the pen.

Carlos Carrasco (15-7) receives the loss after only going 3.2 innings.

The Sox improve to 89-39 on the season and move back to nine games up in the division after the Yankees 9-3 loss to the Marlins.

The Sox will take the field tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 pm where they turn to the southpaw, David Price who goes up against the rookie, Adam Plutko.
