Eagles soar past Nor’Easters

The Husson Eagles football team put up 612 yards of total offense Saturday afternoon, en route to their first win of the season by a score of 47-7 over the University of New England Nor’easters at Blue Storm Stadium in Biddeford.

Husson (1-1) built a 33-0 halftime lead and never looked back, holding the hosts to 247 yards and the lone score. Cory Brandon despite throwing three interceptions, passed 17-25 for 223 yards and three touchdowns as well. Solomon Hassen was the big story rushing for 245 yards on 28 carries and a pair of touchdowns. Miece Loureiro chipped in 66 yards on eight carries and one score, and receiver Ty Bassett also ran for 53 yards on three carries and a touchdown. Kyle Gaudet had seven catches for 65 yards and a touchdown to lead the receiving core. Keyshaun Robinson added 62 yards on five catches, while Bassett had three catches and 60 yards. Robinson and Bassett also caught one touchdown each.

Elvin Suavo, Jake Dobos, De’Wayne Smith, Quan Soyini, and David Redmond all had interceptions for the Eagles defense. Dobos and Suavo led in tackles as well with six and four respectively. Brian Peters went 26-41, 268 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions for 0-2 UNE. Ryan Gaboury had six catches for 104 yards and the lone score for the Nor’Easters. Keegan Stanton-Meas had 11 tackles to lead the UNE defense. UNE is in their first season of varsity football.

Husson will return back to Bangor for their home opener next Saturday at 1 pm when they host the University of Western New England, who eliminated the Eagles in playoff action back in 2016.
