Red Sox win 100 games in season for first time since 1946

September 12, 2018

Coming into Wednesday the Boston Red Sox had three 100 win seasons in franchise history. On Wednesday night, David Price pitched seven shutout innings in leading the Boston Red Sox to a 1-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park as the Red Sox improved to 100-46 on the season. It is the first time since 1946 that the Red Sox have reached that magical mark.

Price (15-6) allowed three hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out seven. Steven Wright and Craig Kimbrel each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Kimbrel recorded his 39th save.

The only run scored on this night is when Rafael Devers reached home plate on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. The Red Sox will send Eduardo Rodriguez to the mound on Thursday night as they go for the sweep over the Blue Jays. Alex Cora is the first since Dusty Baker in 1993 with the Giants to win 100 games in his first season as a manager.
