Brock Holt has made pinch hitting look easy this season. He did it again on Saturday afternoon when he drilled a double off the wall to score two runs in the fifth inning and give the Red Sox a two run lead. The bullpen pitched four hitless innings as the Sox held on for a 5-3 win over the New York Mets at Fenway Park.
Holt is now 5-13 pinch hitting this season. Holt has two homers in those situations and just missed another one on Saturday.
Jackie Bradley JR hit a two run double to tie the game in the fifth inning. It was originally called a home run, the umpires reversed the call. The Mets followed that by walking Rafael Devers intentionally. With Sandy Leon due up, Red Sox manager put Holt up to hit.
Rick Porcello (17-7) pitched five innings, allowing three runs on two hits and one walk, while striking out five. Bobby Poyner, Steven Wright, Ryan Brasier, and Craig Kimbrel took care of the final four innings. Kimbrel recorded his 41st save of the season.
Steve Pearce had three hits. The Red Sox are now 102-47 and have a magic number of four to win the American League East. The Red Sox and Mets will play the final game of the three game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM. It is a matchup of aces on the mound as Chris Sale will face Jacob DeGrom. Sale is scheduled only to pitch three innings.
