The Boston Red Sox will have to wait at least one more day to break the franchise wins record. The Red Sox fell 5-4 to the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field Saturday night, when Michael Brantley looped a single that scored Rajai Davis in the 11th inning to give the Indians the walk off victory.
Blake Swihart and Rafael Devers each hit a solo home run. It was the 19th of the season for Devers. Andrew Benintendi reached base three times and had two RBI.
Rick Porcello allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks, while striking out one in five innings. Joe Kelly was the highlight of the game. He came in with runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs in the 10th inning. Kelly struck out two and got out of the jam. Robby Scott and Brian Johnson combined to pitch four shutout innings. Drew Pomeranz (2-6) faced three batters and didn’t get any of them out in the 11th inning.
The Red Sox are now 105-50 on the season. They will again try and break the franchise record for wins in ad season when they send Hector Velesquez to the mound in the series finale on Sunday night at 7:05.
