Celtics, Bruins split Saturday night games

October 27, 2018

The Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins were both in action Saturday night. The Celtics were in Detroit to battle the undefeated Pistons, while the Bruins hosted the red hot and rival Montreal Canadiens.

At Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Jaylen Brown led the way with 19 points and the Celtics led by as many as 29 points as they sent the Detroit Pistons to their first loss of the 2018-19 season with a 109-89 win.

Detroit (4-1) led by a point or two early on in the game, but an 8-0 run by Boston gave the C’s a 23-11 lead, and the Pistons never led in the game again and trailed 63-41 at the half.

Marcus Morris had 18 points and eight rebounds for the 4-2 Celtics. Daniel Theis had 17 points and eight rebounds. Gordon Hayward had 15 points and five rebounds, while Terry Rozier added 14 points and eight rebounds. Detroit got 18 points and eight rebounds from Andre Drummond, and 16 points from Stanley Johnson.

The same two teams will matchup again at the TD Garden Tuesday night at 7:30 pm.

At the TD Garden in Boston, the rival Montreal Canadiens stopped a two game Bruins winning streak by getting a 33 save performance from Carey Price in a 3-0 win.

Brendan Gallagher and Max Domi both had first period goals to make it 2-0. Boston thought they had got within 2-1 when Ryan Donato beat Price with a wrist shot 7:45 into the middle period. However, Montreal coach Claude Julien challenged the play and it was found that Anders Bjork was offsides on the play disallowing the goal. Jordie Benn added an empty net goal with 31 seconds left in the game to ice it for the 6-2-2 Canadiens.

Tuuka Rask stopped 20 of 22 shots in the loss in the Bruins net, as Boston lost their first home game of the season (4-1-0), dropping to 6-3-2 overall. Both teams were 0-3 on the powerplay. The win in net for Price was the 290th his career, moving him past Patrick Roy for second most ever on the Canadiens all-time goalie wins list. Price is now just 24 wins behind all-time leader Jacques Plante (314) for the most in Montreal history. The Bruins are in Carolina on Tuesday to battle the Hurricanes at 7:30 pm.
