Winning a batting title, a World Series title, becoming a father. Mookie Betts capped off an unbelievable 2018 and two month stretch of great things happening with an American League MVP award on Thursday night.
Betts is the first Red Sox player since Dustin Pedroia (2008) to earn the honor. Mike Trout (Angels) finished as runner up, while Jose Ramirez (Indians) finished third. Mookie got all but two first place votes. Teammate JD Martinez and Trout got the other first place votes. Martinez finished fourth.
Betts is the 11th Red Sox player to win MVP. Betts joins Tris Speaker (1912), Jimmie Foxx (1938), Ted Williams (1946, 1949), Jackie Jensen (1958), Carl Yastrzemski (1967), Fred Lynn (1975), Jim Rice (1978), Roger Clemens (1986), Mo Vaughn (1995), Pedroia (2008).
