Donato returns, nets shootout winner for Bruins

November 29, 2018

Tuuka Rask had 28 saves and Ryan Donato scored in the shootout Thursday night, as the Boston Bruins rallied for a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders at TD Garden.

Anders Lee scored in the first period for New York (12-9-3), before Brad Marchand tied it in the second with a powerplay marker, his first goal in eight games for Boston (14-7-4). Donato, who was recalled from Providence of the AHL Wednesday, scored the lone goal in the shootout as the fourth shooter. Donato faked a shot to the left, committing Isles goalie Robin Lehner, and tucking the puck past the skate of Lehner into the right side of the net for the winner. It was the first shootout game of the season for the Bruins.

Lehner made 35 saves in the Islanders net in the shootout loss. Torey Krug and David Pastrnak assisted on the Marchand goal. Prior to Thursday nights game, the Bruins also raised Rick Middletons retired #16 to the Garden rafters in a great ceremony. Boston will host Detroit on Saturday night at 7 pm.
