Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 244 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had seven Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Lexi Ireland has helped PVHS girls basketball get off to a hot start to the season. This week she scored 27 points in all three games. She also had at least 12 rebounds in each game. It is the fourth athlete of the week honor for Ireland.
The Charles Inn female athlete of the week
Lexi Ireland- PVHS- Basketball- recorded 27 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists in 57-52 win over Stearns. Recorded 27 points, 12 rebounds, and six steals in 46-26 win over Bangor Christian. Recorded 27 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists in 48-38 win over Penquis.
Runner up
Peyton Grant – Dexter – Basketball- scored 32 points, including 8 three points in 45-18 win over Penquis. Had 18 points, four assists, three rebounds, and three steals in 49-10 win over PCHS.
Other nominations
Lauren Cook- Calais- Basketball- scored 25 of her 30 points in second half to break open a game that was within two points at halftime in 61-36 win over Houlton.
Julia Watras – MDI – Basketball- recorded 21 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and three blocks in 52-36 win over Foxcroft.
Gabrielle Wener – Messalonskee – Basketball- recorded 26 points, five rebounds, and four assists in 70-43 win over Brewer.
Emily Tolman- Mattanawcook- Basketball- had 13 points, five rebounds. four steals, and three assists in 40-21 win over PCHS. Recorded 20 points, nine steals, four rebounds, and four assists in 52-11 win over Lee Academy. Had 12 points, six rebounds, three steals, and two assists in 45-42 loss to Stearns. She averaged 15 pts, five reb, 5.3 steals, and three assists per game. Tolman shot 50% from the field in those 3 games.
Avery Herrick – Dexter- Basketball- recorded 15 points, 10 steals, and eight rebounds in 49-10 win over PCHS. Had 11 points, six rebounds, and two steals in 45-18 win over Penquis.
