Mattanawcook goes on late run to get by Dexter in battle of class C powers

DEXTER- The Mattanawcook Lynx went on a 7-0 run to end the game and prevail 41-34 over Dexter in the battle of class C unbeaten teams at Guiski gymnasium.

The Lynx had a 9-8 lead after the first quarter behind five points from Max Woodman. Mattanawcook held a 11-4 rebounding edge after the first eight minutes. Mattanawcook outscored Dexter 9-7 in the second quarter to take an 18-15 halftime lead.

Alex Brown scored eight of his game high 12 points in the third quarter as the Lynx expanded the lead to 32-27. The Tigers scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to even the score.

With the score tied at 34, Cayden Spencer-Thompson put down a dunk to give Mattanawcook a lead they wouldn’t give back. Spencer-Thompson followed with a layup and Brown hit two free throws in the final minutes to secure the victory.

Trevor Richards scored a game high 11 points for the Tigers. Kobe Pillsbury scored eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Nate Richards has eight points, five rebounds, and two assists. Dexter (7-1) will next play on January 14th at PCHS, in a game that can be seen on WHOU.

Mattanawcook out rebounded Dexter 36-22. The Lynx shot 6-14 from the free throw line while Dexter shot 4-8.

Brown had four steals to go along with his game high 12 points. Woodman recorded 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Spencer-Thompson added seven points and 11 rebounds. Mattanawcook (6-0) will travel to George Stevens on January 8th. The Lynx are the only undefeated team remaining in class C north.
