CORINTH- Peyton Grant made a long three pointer in overtime to lift the Dexter Tigers to a 25-24 win at Central on Saturday afternoon.
Central jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held Dexter scoreless until Cloe Mountain put in a basket with 3:40 left in the first quarter. Central held a 6-3 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
The Tigers evened the score at six when Grant went 1-2 from the free throw line with 3.44 left in the second quarter. The Red Devils scored their only point of the quarter when Emilee Cohen made one free throw as Central took a 7-6 halftime advantage.
Dexter took there first lead (10-9) of the game when Cheyenne Beem powered up a layup with 6:25 left in the third quarter. Beem and Mountain helped the Tigers go on an 8-0 run as the Tigers expanded the advantage to 14-9. Alyse Campbell snapped the run when she hit a jump shot with 3:33 left in the third quarter. Dexter held a 17-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Central scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to take a 18-17. Grant answered with a three pointer with 5:40 left in the fourth quarter to give the Tigers a 20-18 lead. Rachel Smith grabbed an offensive rebound and put the ball in to even the score at 20 with 4:05 left.
Danielle Cummings gave the Tigers their last lead of regulation when she converted a layup with 2:50 left. The last points during regulation play was on two free throws from Cohen. Dexter had a chance to win it in regulation but a long three pointer from Grant just missed.
Smith gave the Red Devils a 24-22 lead and that lasted until the Tigers were able to get the ball to Grant who drained the deep three pointer with 12 seconds remaining. Cohen had a three point attempt as time was winding down but the shot missed and the Tigers went back to Dexter with the win.
Alison Shaw had eight points to lead the Red Devils. Smith added six points and four rebounds. Cohen chipped in with five points and six rebounds. Campbell recorded four points, six rebounds, and two steals. Madi Speed had one point and six rebounds. Central (6-4) and Dexter (7-2) will meet again on Tuesday at Dexter.
Grant had seven points and three steals to lead the Tigers. Beem added six points, six rebounds, and two steals. Mountain recorded five points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Cummings and Kaylee Deering had four and three points respectively.
