At George Sereyko Memorial Gym in Howland Wednesday, the Howler Boys got their 4th straight victory with a win over Searsport, 67-39.
The contest was tight after one quarter, with Penobscot Valley holding a slim one-point lead 17-16. Charlie Spiegel scored 10 points during this time frame to keep the Vikings right in it. The game remained close until a few minutes before the half, when the Howlers went on a run to extend their lead to 18 with seconds to play. Searsport’s Colby Snow hit a long, running 3-pointer at the buzzer to make it 37-22 at the break. PVHS featured a balanced and unselfish attack, as Seniors Elijah Wood, Grant Kidon, and Bradon Blish scored 11, 9, and 8 points in the first 16 minutes of play.
Penobscot Valley stretched their lead in the 3rd quarter by scoring 16 points, and holding Searsport scoreless.
Wood finished with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds. Kidon had 15 points, five assists, and four steals. Blish scored 14, and Reece Carter and Lance Neal netted seven and six points respectively. The Howlers improve to 9-2 and will travel to Lee on Friday.
The Vikings (6-6) were led by Spiegel’s 13 points and Josh Wright’s 12 points. Colby Snow and Isiah Runci finished with seven and five. They host Central next Tuesday.
