Presque Isle girls basketball holds off Foxcroft for 56-53 win

DOVER-FOXCROFT –Maggie Castonguay scored nine of her game high 22 points in the third quarter to help the Presque Isle Wildcats earn a hard fought 56-53 win over Foxcroft on Saturday afternoon.

Foxcroft had five different scorers in the first quarter as they held a 13-11 lead. The Wildcats made six 3-pointers in the second quarter and outscored Foxcroft 19-12 and built a 30-25 halftime lead.

Presque Isle had the lead as high as 18 in the third quarter as Castonguay made two 3-pointers during the run. The Wildcats had a 47-33 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Makenzie Beaudry and Ainsley Ade combined for 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Ponies rallied to even the score at 53.. Molly Kingsbury made two free throws with 57.1 seconds left to give Presque Isle a lead they wouldn’t give back.

Beaudry scored a team high 21 points for the Ponies. Beaudry also pulled down 15 rebounds and had three steals. Ade had 15 points. Cailin Seavey added seven points (4-4 FT). Marsh chipped in with four points and seven rebounds. Foxcroft (5-8) will travel to Mount View on Monday.

Foxcroft out rebounded Presque Isle 31-30. Foxcroft shot 10-18 from the free throw line, while Presque Isle shot 11-19.

Madison Michaud put in 14 points (eight in the first quarter) for the Wildcats, Kingsbury added 10 points (8-8 FT) and nine rebounds. Faith Sjoberg chipped in with eight points, six steals, and four rebounds. Presque Isle (7-5) will host Hermon on Monday.
