Andrew Fleming scored a career high and game high 38 points Wednesday night, to lead the Maine Black Bears to a 78-59 America East men’s basketball win over the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks at Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Maine (4-18, 2-5 America East) led from start to finish in this one and never trailed. The Bears led by as many as 10 in the first half and held that same advantage at the half 37-27. UML got within three points at 39-36 with just under 16 minutes to play, before Maine broke it open. A resounding 23-0 run over the next 9:27 put the visitors up 26 and was the largest lead of the game with just 6:32 left, and ended any thoughts of a Riverhawks comeback.
Fleming tied an America East record by going 18-20 from the floor in the game. Fleming also became the first player to shoot 90 percent from the field when attempting at least 20 shots in a game in 20 years according to ESPN. He also added eight rebounds and had five dunks in the game to lead the Black Bears. Isaiah White contributed 10 points and five rebounds, while Terion Moss chipped in nine points and seven rebounds. Maine shot 52 percent from the floor, including nearly 56 percent in the second half. Christian Lutete led UMass-Lowell with 26 points on 10-15 shooting (6-9 three pointers) and grabbed six rebounds. The Riverhawks saw their record drop to 12-10 overall, 4-3 America East snapping a four game winning streak.
