Maine crushes cold shooting UNH

The Maine women’s basketball team started fast Saturday afternoon using a big run to open a comfortable lead, and cruising to a 69-45 win over UNH in America East action at Lundholm Gym in Durham, New Hampshire.

Maine (15-7, 8-1 America East) opened up a 20-7 lead after one quarter, which they would extend to 37-13 by halftime. The Bears shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half, compared to just 22 percent for the Wildcats. After scoring the last eight points of the first half, Maine scored the first 13 points in the third quarter to open up a 50-13 advantage with the 21-0 run. That was the largest lead of the game, as the Wildcats late in the fourth would shave the margin to 23 points but was too little too late as the Bears improved to 3-1 in conference road games.

Dor Saar added 11 points and six assists, while Blanca Millan also chipped in nine points, four rebounds, and five steals. Kari Brekke had 18 points to lead the 4-18, 1-8 UNH Wildcats. Caroline Soucy added 10 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Maine ended up 50 percent for the game from the floor, including 9-17 (53%) from three point range. UNH was 32 percent overall, and 6-18 (33%) from the arc.
