Black Bears men’s basketball end season with quarterfinal loss at Vermont

The University of Maine men’s basketball team ended their 2015/2016 season with a 99-82 loss at Vermont in an America East quarterfinal game on Wednesday night.

Cam Ward led the Catamounts with 24 points, including 9-13 from the field amd 6-9 from three point range. Ward hit a shot from near halfcourt to beat the halftime buzzer, and send Vermont into the locker room with a 58-39 lead.

The Catamounts shot (38-58) 65.5% from the field, including (12-21) 57.1% from three point range. Vermont held the lead the entire game, and built that lead up to 24 early in the second half.

Vermont (20-12) had five players finish in double figures in scoring, including Ethan O’Day, who recorded 21 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. The Catamounts will host Hartford in an America East semifinal game on Monday, March 7th.

Issac Vann led the Black Bears with 26 points and seven rebounds, Aaron Calixte put in 17 points. Maine finishes the season with a record of 8-22.
