Woodland has balanced attack in girls basketball quarterfinal win over Katahdin

BANGOR– The Woodland Dragons put three players in double figures, and rolled to a 59-32 win over Katahdin on Monday morning at the Cross Insurance Center.

Woodland held a slim 13-11 after the first quarter. The Dragons started the second quarter on a 12-2 run led by Sadie Smith (7) and Emily Curtis (5) combining for 12 in the quarter as the Dragons outscored the Cougars 18-5. Woodland also shot 13-13 from the foul line in the first half.

Katie Erskine led the trio of Dragons in double figures. She had 17 points, three steals, and two assists. Curtis filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, and two blocks. Smith finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Woodland (14-5) will play a semifinal game at 7:05 on Thursday evening against Deer Isle-Stonington.

The Dragons ended up shooting 20-27 from the free throw line, while Katahdin shot 9-12. Woodland out rebounded the Cougars 29-20.

Madison Landry led the Cougars with seven points. Hannah Kyllonen and Makayla Hartsgrove put in six points each. Katahdin finishes the season with a 9-10 record.
