Red Sox set pitching rotation to start season

March 26, 2019

Before the Boston Red Sox played their final preseason game against the Chicago Cubs in Arizona on Tuesday afternoon, Alex Cora announced how he planned on lining up his starting rotation.

Chris Sale will get the ball in the regular season opener at Seattle on Thursday evening at 7:05 PM. Nathan Eovaldi, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Rick Porcello will round out the rotation for the four game series against the Mariners. David Price who will pitch the exhibition finale against the Cubs will open up a four game series at Oakland on April 1st.

Alex Cora has said the Red Sox will most likely go with a six man rotation the first time around the rotation. That would set up Brian Johnson or Hector Velazquez for the April 2nd game at Oakland. With the six man rotation, Sale is set to make his third start of the season in the home opener on April 9th against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Red Sox will play four in Seattle, four in Oakland, and three in Arizona against the Diamondbacks in an inter-league series before coming home.

Sale is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in four career opening day starts.
