David Leblanc hit an RBI fielders choice in the bottom of the 15th inning scoring Nolan Brown from third base Thursday evening, as the Husson Eagles baseball team walked off on the visiting Saint Joseph College (ME) Monks 2-1 at the Winkin Complex in Bangor in a non-conference home opener for Husson.
Greg Emanuelson put the Monks on the board first in the top of the third with a two out RBI triple to make it 1-0. The score remained the same until Hussons Luke Covey hit an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the score 1-1. In the bottom of the 15th inning, Brown began things with an infield single. Kobe Rogerson grounded out to the pitcher to advance Brown to second. Conor McGuire singled to center to put runners on first and third. Maguire stole second, and then Nick Guerrette was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out and to set up a possible double play to try to get Saint Josephs out of the inning. Leblanc then hit one on the ground to second base where they forced Guerrette out at second, but the throw by the shortstop to first base to attempt the double play was late to get Leblanc, and Brown came across to score to end the game. The game took three hours, 52 minutes to play.
Former Bangor Ram pitcher Jesse Colford (1-2) got the win in relief for the Eagles allowing no runs, no hits, no walks, with five strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Blake Slicer started and got a no decision, allowing just one run, one hit, with two walks, and five strikeouts in a 7.0 inning effort. Matt Poff (0-1) took the loss for the Monks, allowing the game winning run in the 15th after 4.2 innings worked. Husson is now 8-8, St Joe’s drops to 13-4. Due to rainy weather conditions this weekend, Husson will now open the North Atlantic Conference schedule Friday at 4 pm at Winkin Complex with a doubleheader against UMaine-Farmington to open up a four game series. The NAC opening weekend will conclude Saturday for two games, with first pitch slated for 11 am.
