Mookie Betts hit a two run double in the ninth inning to spark the Boston Red Sox to a 6-3 win at Oakland on Wednesday night.
The Red Sox trailed 3-0 after four innings. A Blake Swihart solo homer and a Mitch Moreland double that scored Betts and Rafael Devers evened the score.
The bullpen took care of the rest to allow the Red Sox to get back into the game. Colten Brewer, Mart Barnes, and Ryan Brasier combined to throw four scoreless innings. Brewer struck out two and didn’t allow a hit in 1.2 innings. Barnes (1-0) came in with the go ahead runner on base and struck out A’s power hitter Khris Davis. Barnes struck out two and allowed one hit in 1.1 innings. Brasier pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his first career save.
Nathan Eovaldi started the game and allowed three runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out three in five innings. Swihart powered the offense with three hits and two runs scored. Andrew Benintendi scored Betts with a triple in the ninth inning. The teams will finish a four game series on Thursday afternoon with Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound for the Red Sox.
