The Bowdoin Polar Bears outscored the Husson Eagles 11-1 in a pair of non-conference softball games Sunday afternoon to pick up a doubleheader sweep at the Winkin Complex in Bangor.

In the first game Bowdoin used a five run third inning to break open a scoreless game, and rolled to a five inning mercy rule shortened 9-1 win.

In the third the Polar Bears got RBI singles by Caroline Rice, Allison Rutz, Samantha Valdivia, and a two run double by Maddie Rouhana to make it 5-0. Rice added an RBI groundout and Kasey Cunningham scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to extend to a 7-0 advantage. Morgan Coleman got Husson on the board with an RBI double in the home half of the fourth, before Natasha Fingar hit a two run homer to left field in the fifth to give Bowdoin an eight run lead. The Eagles couldn’t come up with anything in the bottom half ending the game by mercy.

Whitney Bess had a pair of hits for the Eagles.

In the second game two Husson errors in the fourth inning allowed two Bowdoin runs to score unearned as the Polar Bears finished off the sweep with a 2-0 win.

Ruby Siltanen (6-2) did the rest in the circle for Bowdoin allowing no runs, three hits, with no walks, and five strikeouts in the complete game 7.0 inning performance.
