Hurricanes cool off red hot Bruins

BOSTON, MA- Phillip Di Giuseppe cleaned up a Jeff Skinner breakaway shot for his fifth goal of the year 1:30 into overtime Thursday night to lead the Carolina Hurricanes past the Boston Bruins before 17,565 fans at the TD Garden.

Elias Lindholm and Nathan Gerbe also scored for Carolina (31-26-11) and Cam Ward stopped 30 Bruins shots to help earn the road victory.

Loui Eriksson scored his 25th of the year 5:13 into the second and David Pastrnak scored his 10th almost six minutes into the third period to help the Bruins overcome two one goal deficits to tie the game. Tuuka Rask made 25 saves in the loss for Boston, who earned a point to overtake Tampa Bay for sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division with 84 points. Tampa Bay has 83 points.

Boston (38-23-8) will host the New York Islanders on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the TD Garden.
