Jen Jones fired a perfect game and Morgan Coleman earned NAC MVP honors with five RBI Sunday, as the Husson Eagles won their ninth North Atlantic Conference championship with a mercy ruled shortened five inning 8-0 victory over Thomas College at Colby College in Waterville. Husson has now won back to back conference titles.
Bri Brochu reached on a throwing error in the bottom of the second that allowed two unearned runs to score to make it 2-0 Husson. Coleman had her first RBI of the day in the same inning with an infield single to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage. Coleman stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and hammered a shot down the left field line for a grand slam padding the lead to 7-0. Olivia Smith ended the game by mercy with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
Jones (12-5) faced the minimum of 15 batters throwing 48 strikes on 64 pitches. She had four strikeouts in the game. Arika Brochu, B. Brochu, Coleman, and Whitney Bess all had two hits a piece. Katlyn Coulter (10-3) lost in the circle for Thomas allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits in 3.0 innings. The Terriers end their season at 24-10 overall. Thomas had a 13 game win streak before entering this weekend where they went 1-2.
Husson is now 24-9 and will find out their opponent, time, and location for the upcoming 2019 NCAA Division III softball tournament on Monday at 1 pm via the NCAA Div III selection show. The Eagles carry a seven game win streak into the NCAA tournament.
