DELAND, FL- The Stetson Hatters baseball team used a three run eighth inning Sunday afternoon to complete a three game sweep over the Maine Black Bears by a score of 7-6.
Maine would trail early as the Hatters took a 3-1 lead after three innings but the Black Bear bats came alive in the top of the fourth. Colin Ridley hit a two run double to tie the game at 3-3 and that was followed by a Brenden Geary single to give Maine their first lead at 4-3.
Maine would extend the lead to 5-3 in the sixth and to 6-4 in the seventh inning before Stetson rallied in the bottom of inning number eight. Jacob Koos hit a two run double to tie the game at 6-6 before Matt Morales singled in Koos with a run scoring single to put Stetson back ahead 7-6. Walker Sheller shut down Maine in the ninth to earn the save and Joey Gonzales picked up his second win of the year for Stetson (10-7).
Nick Silva started the game on the hill for Maine and went 5.2 innings while giving up six hits, four runs, two earned, three walks and five strikeouts. Logan Fullmer (0-1) pitched the eighth and took the loss. Ridley had three hits and three driven in for Maine to lead the offense while Koos also had three hits and three RBI for Stetson.
Maine (4-10) will return to action on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. against Bucknell in Winter Haven, Florida.
