Maine will play at Quinnipiac in first round of WNIT

On Monday evening. The University of Maine women’s basketball team found out their first round WNIT opponent. The Black Bears  will travel to Hamden, Connecticut for a clash with the Quinnipiac Bobcats. The game is scheduled for Friday.

The Bobcats had a 19 game winning streak before falling 57-41 in the MAAC championship game. Quinnipiac (24-8) comes in with a 12-1 record at home. The only loss at TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden for the Bobcats came against Manhattan on December 6th. The Bobcats defeated Hartford and Vermont of the America East during the regular season.

Quinnipiac averages 66.9 points per game, while allowing 59.0. The Black Bears (26-8) average 61 per game, while allowing 62.6. The Bobcats grab 38 rebounds per game, while Maine has averaged 32 rebounds. Black Bears turn the ball over 12.1 times per game, while Quinnipiac averages 15 turnovers.

Maine also came into their conference championship game on a long winning streak. Albany snapped the Black Bears 14 game streak with a 59-58 victory in the America East championship game.

Maria Napolitano leads the Bobcats with 10.7 points per game.  The senior has made 53 three pointers this season. Sigi Koizar leads the Black Bears with 12.5 points and 3.8 assists per game. Liz Wood averages 9.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.5 steals per contest.
