Flowers and Derrick power Maine softball to sweep over Quinnipiac

The bats dominating in game one, Molly Flowers dominating in game two, as the University of Maine softball team swept a doubleheader at Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon.

In game one, Alyssa Derrick had three hits to pace a 12 hit attack in a 9-2 Black Bears victory. In game two, Flowers struck out 13, while allowing only four hits in the circle to lead Maine to a 3-1 win.

The Black Bears scored seven unearned runs, including two in the first inning, and five in the fourth inning in the game one victory. Janelle Bouchard, Felicia Lennon and Sarah Coyne had two hits each, while Bouchard also scored three runs and walked once. Annie Kennedy (4-3) picked up the victory in the circle. She allowed two runs in three innings. Erin Bogdanovich pitched four scoreless innings of relief.

Game two was more about the pitching, and that would be Flowers. She allowed four hits, four walks, and one run, while striking out 13. Flowers improved to 6-5 on the season. Maddie Decker had two hits, including a home run, while Derrick and Rachel Carlson had one RBI each.

Maine (10-11) is schedule to play at Rhode Island on Wednesday, before starting conference play at Stony Brook next weekend,
